Dalton Mumphrey is a Los Angeles-based musician, composer, and creative whose sound bridges the roots of jazz with the pulse of modern soul and groove. Known for his dynamic tone and imaginative compositions, Mumphrey brings a forward-thinking energy to every performance—whether leading his own projects or collaborating with some of today’s most creative voices.

Drawing inspiration from visionaries like Herbie Hancock to Fela Kuti, his music blends improvisation with cultural storytelling, creating a sound that feels both timeless and contemporary. He has performed across festivals and venues such as the Bumbershoot Festival, the UCLA Jazz Reggae Festival, The Mammoth Jazz Festival, The Mint, and Mr. Musichead. A highlight of Mumphrey’s career came as co–band leader for the UCLA Berry Gordy Celebration, a tribute concert honoring the Motown founder that drew legends including Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and Berry Gordy himself. He has also performed at landmark institutions such as the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and The Hammer Museum, supporting community and arts-centered initiatives through music.

Born in Carson, California and raised in Murrieta, Mumphrey studied Global Jazz Studies and Music Industry at UCLA, where he refined his artistry under mentors such as Arturo O’Farrill, Mark Turner, and Terence Blanchard. His commitment to education continues through his work with The Harmony Project, helping nurture the next generation of young musicians.

Mumphrey currently holds weekly residencies at LULU Restaurant LA and Wolfsglen, performing regularly with his ensemble while preparing new music for release. With a voice rooted in jazz yet reaching toward the future, he is steadily carving a distinct space within the next wave of Los Angeles artists.
